A typical Sewing Workshop day!

I thought I would like to show you what a typical Jane Lightfoot Designs Sewing Workshop entails, and have chosen a project that had been in my mind for a little while: Appliqued Noticeboards! I think I have been thinking about this project as I had a desire to become more organised this year! There is no reason why a fairly mundane item like a noticeboard should not only be functional but look good too.

Much of my preparation for my workshops takes place ahead of the day, but on the day I make my way to the venue, which on this occasion was Hoveringham Village Centre arriving there around 7.30. I am not the best morning person and my husband kindly packs my car full of resources and food for the day. It always amazes me how he manages to fit everything in, all those years of packing for holidays, and transporting our son and daughter to university has been good training!

Hoveringham Village Centre

Hoveringham Village Centre is a lovely venue as you can see with great facilities. The Minkley Room shown here was originally the Old School Room which has now been refurbished and re-purposed for community use. Here you can see we are all set up and ready to go, tables all set out, resources organised and kettle on!

On arrival you will be assured of a warm welcome and be offered a cup of tea or coffee along with a home baked biscuit and the opportunity for a quick chat and introduction to other workshop members.  I know beginners are often concerned whether they’ll be skilled enough but Workshops are suitable for all levels of experience, so if you are a complete beginner don’t worry help is always at hand. Time to get creating!

Jane Lightfoot Sewing Workshops

I like my workshops to not only be about sewing but to be a great place to socialise, meet new people with like minded interests and to generally just experience a great day out! Needless to say to achieve that we believe a good, fresh, seasonal home made lunch is an essential part of the day. This was our menu for this workshop: Smoked Salmon with Watercress and Dill Flan, Roasted Tomato, Parmesan and Basil Quiche, Baked Potatoes and Salad, followed by Fresh Fruit Pavlova or Date Slice and Cream, Tea/Coffee.

The afternoon was a busy one, utilising some basic sewing skills, designing, applique, printing along with a bit of upholstery. Here are some of the Appliqued Noticeboards that were created, a great result achieved by all and a very nice item to take home at the end of the day.
